In Hyderabad, artisans at the foothills of Tirumala, known for their intricate wood carvings of Lord Balaji and other deities, are preparing to apply for a geographical indication tag. These artists, who have been creating lifelike idols and decorative items such as dolls, toys, and furniture for over a century, are part of the Sri Balaji Wood Carvings Mutually Aided Cooperative Society Limited. With support from NABARD, they will soon submit their application for the GI tag, making it the 20th such filing from the region of Andhra Pradesh.
